How to measure product dimensions online in high-temperature steel production? - Six common production line dimension detection equipment in the metallurgical industry

In industrial automation production, many products are regular shapes, such as round wires, bars, pipes, plate profiles, square steel, angle steel, square tubes, etc. These products are of various types and varieties, and geometric dimensions are one of the dimensions that must be checked in production. For this reason, many manufacturers have developed a variety of intelligent measuring instruments for production line detection. Below, we will briefly introduce the six common dimensions detection equipment.

1. Outer diameter measurement equipment - diameter gauge

The intelligent diameter gauge is an outer diameter and ovality detection equipment based on the principle of photoelectric detection. It is calibrated with an accuracy of 3 microns. It has the advantages of high accuracy and high frequency. At the same time, it is not affected by the jitter of the object being measured. It is very suitable for online detection of the production line. Use a multi-axis probe to perform multi-directional outer diameter detection and ovality detection, and obtain cross-sectional graphics on the measurement and control software, so that the cross-sectional shape of the object being measured can be clearly understood.

The intelligent diameter gauge can detect round rolled materials with a diameter of 0.1 mm or more, and can even be customized into an adjustable spacing probe to achieve the function of adjusting the measuring range.

It is worth mentioning that the intelligent diameter gauge can also detect the inner diameter and transverse and longitudinal ribs of rebar. In addition to the diameter gauge based on the principle of photoelectric detection, there are also diameter gauges based on the principle of laser and machine vision.

2. Thickness measurement equipment - thickness gauge

Plate products need to detect width and thickness dimensions. Commonly used are range-adjustable online thickness gauges, non-contact measurement, installed on the production line for high-precision and high-frequency detection, both hot-rolled and cold-rolled.

The thickness gauge is not only suitable for the measurement of objects at room temperature (the above figure shows all normal temperature measurement products), but also for the measurement of hot-rolled metal plates at high temperatures.

When measuring high-temperature rolled plates, the C-frame and measuring sensor should take protective measures such as water cooling, air cooling and insulation to ensure that the sensor is within the normal operating temperature range.

The advantage of the laser thickness gauge is that it is a non-contact measurement, and will not lose accuracy due to wear. It is especially suitable for measuring objects moving on the production line.

3. Width measurement equipment - width gauge

In the current plate production process, whether it is the rolling process or the final product inspection process, in order to obtain a higher plate width value and the best rolling process, the plate width measurement system has become one of the indispensable equipment on the production line.

However, with the improvement of production technology, especially in the final product inspection section, due to the low temperature of the steel plate, the traditional infrared measurement method can no longer meet the use. Now two sets of probes are mostly used at the same time. The dual probes are independently set on the slide module, and a wide-angle probe is added to each probe. The position of the width probe is adjusted by the plate edge position monitored by the wide-angle probe.

4. Length measurement equipment - length gauge

Whether it is plate or pipe, these equipment that need to detect length can use the length gauge for non-contact online detection. The machine vision measurement principle is used to complete the length dimension detection through the combination of multiple industrial cameras.

The online length measuring instrument is mainly developed for the production line in harsh environments such as hot-rolled steel. When installed on the production line, it can detect the length online and the outer diameter of the round rolled material. If it is a cold-rolled material, supplementary light is required.

5. Straightness measuring equipment - Straightness measuring instrument

It can detect the straightness of round rolled materials and the straightness of plate edges. Both online and offline detection can be customized and can be installed in multiple locations such as before and after the straightening machine and before the flaw detection line.

The straightness measuring instrument is a device that uses the straight line method for measurement. It is a straightness measurement system composed of 3 measuring instruments. The front and rear measuring instruments fit the straight line, and the middle one is responsible for comparing with the straightness to obtain the straightness dimension information. Each measuring instrument uses the photoelectric measurement principle for non-contact online or offline detection.

When measuring, is online or offline detection required? The inner hole straightness measuring instrument can only be used for offline detection, while the straightness measuring instrument can be used for online dimension detection. If offline detection is required, a bracket can also be manufactured to drive the straightness measuring instrument or pipe to move through the guide rail, so as to perform offline dimension detection.

6. Surface defect measurement equipment Contour measuring instrument

The contour measuring instrument has a wider range of applications. Various types of steel such as round steel, square steel, T-shaped steel, H-shaped steel, rail, and threaded steel can be detected by the contour measuring instrument for surface defects of steel, and can also be positioned.

According to the different shapes of steel and detection requirements, the geometric dimension data it measures are also different. For example, the outer diameter, ovality and other dimensions of round steel are measured; the side length of the square section, the side length and thickness of the angle steel, the radius of the fillet and other dimensions are detected; the inner diameter, transverse ribs, longitudinal ribs, cross-sectional area and other information of threaded steel are not introduced here one by one.
